SUSUS the fresh water dolphins
Where is it?
Nepal's longest and the largest river
Karnali is situated in the West Nepal,
the part yet untouched and sparsely
populated region. The river together
with its tributaries drains most of
Western part of Nepal. The river is
best run at low flow during November
to April.
The Susus also know as the Gangetic
River Dolphins, frolic along the lower
floats of this river. They are unique
creatures existing on this planet as
endangered species. These river dolphins
face the problems of habitat degradation
of over fishing, hunting, the effects
of barrages and dams.
Susus habit the creeks and smaller tributaries
during the monsoon and during the dry
season adults are seen in the main channels,
younger ones prefer to stay in the tributaries
These dolphins don't enter the sea.
